Mortal Obligation

Monday, February 28, 2011

So, I have been playing around with book titles, and have come to a decision. Mortal Obligation is the first book in a series about Alastriana. I am not sure what the series will be titled, I am still playing around with words. At this point I have an outline for a trilogy. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the title. Does it sound appealing? Or do you think it needs tweaking? I'm open to suggestions.

It feels a little ambitious to want my first book to be part of a trilogy, but hey, go big or go home! Ha! Those of you who know me, know that is totally not my normal mantra. I am a worry wart, and will be stressed about this untill I publish the third book. And then I will worry about little things like, publicity, reviews, and starting the next book. Yep, you read that right. I figure that I have, hm, maybe twelve different book ideas floating in my head at any given moment. Four of which I am very, very serious about writing. And one of those would be atleast two books, possibly more.

I managed to get 4,000 words done this weekend. That is roughly two and a half chapters. My chapters are pretty loose at this point-- Some of them are pretty clear cut, and others are a little more ambiguous. The more I write the clearer they become.

Well, I am off to write some more. My goal is to have 20,000 words done by this weekend. I know, thats a rather large number but I want to aim high for a lot of reasons. I'm just shy of 40,000 at this moment and I am wanting to double that in the next couple of weeks.

Let me know what you think of the book title, and if you have any suggestions!

Late Night Writing

Friday, February 25, 2011

I stayed up rather late last night. Well, I should say that it was late for me-- midnight is well past my mother-of-a-toddler bedtime! But, the house was quiet and I was able to sit back and let the creative juices flow. It is simply amazing how much writing I was able to get done last night. 1500 words in just (as in 10 minutes) over an hour. I woke up this morning, and thought back to what I had written the night before. Suddenly I was curious as to just how much I had gotten done. So, after breakfast I came into my (newly cleaned and spiffy) office (that untill yesterday was in fact the guest room/ giant mess) and did a quick word count.

To say I was proud that I had gotten that much done, might be an understatement. 1500 words doesn't always flow that easily. I really think that it is because it was the characters themselves doing all of the work. They were alive last night, and having a serious converation. I was just engrossed in what they had to say! Hopefully I will be able to contiue this writing streak today, or rather tonight. With a toddler, there just isn't a lot of uninterrupted writing time during the day. But, I do get time to plot and plan while cleaning macarroni off the dinning room floor.  Plus, she giggles and does her happy food dance when she is eating macarroni, and that is just so darn cute!

I am working on getting a better description of my book. Hopefully I will post that sometime this weekend. That way you guys will be able to understand a little better what my book is all about.

T.G.I.F everyone!

So, this is happening...

It feels a little more official now-- I am writing a book! I even have my very own blog. After putting off my dreams for so many years, it feels surreal to be doing all of this. I am in talks about a cover design, and joining writers groups. I have an official author Facebook page. Now, I just need to write some more! I know that my crit partners (one who happens to be my super awesome sister, and the other a great friend), are probably wondering why I am wasting time on a blog instead of handing them more chapters. Well, I promise to get to that, I can hear my muse calling my name. But first, I want to tell everyone that is supporting me in this venture thank you. Some of you have believed in me from the begining, and others have simply supported me in anything I do. I love you guys.

Okay, I am done with the mushy stuff. I want to tell you a little bit about the book that I am working on now.

It is a Young Adult Urban Fantasy set in Savannah, Ga. Alastriana, Ree as her friends call her, has not always had an easy life. Her older brother died in a drunk driving accident a few years ago, her mother named her Alastriana (that can't be easy on any school aged kid), and her crush of two years thinks he is her surrogate older brother. But the trouble doesn't stop there, she is also seeing things that aren't real and feeling emotions that aren't hers. Just when she decides that she may be losing her mind, a man that looks like death shows up asking for her. Asking for her by name. "Give us the Alastriana."

I can't wait to share more with you. This is such an exciting time for me!
