A couple of weeks ago, I was the recipient of a huge surprise! My younger cousin wrote a song for the Dark Betrayal Trilogy. Yeah, you read that right. Isn't that awesome? My books inspired someone to reach for her dreams. I have to admit that this floored me. Who knew that I could inspire someone to do something so cool? I'm incredibly honored.
I talked with my wonderful cousin, Olivia, and she agreed to let me share the lyrics on my blog. So, here it is:
Immortal Obligation
If you look back now
to five days ago
You'll find a girl
in her own artistic world.
It's Immortal Obligation
no frustration
Keep your mind focused now
so you can save the world somehow.
If you fast forward
you'll see the girl
that she's gotta be to save all
if she fails then we will fall.
It's Immortal Obligation
no frustration
Keep your mind focused now
so you can save the world somehow.
Use the gifts that you've been given
to chop of their heads
Technically killing's a sin
but it's not so bad when they're already dead.
-Olivia
I absolutely loved getting this song. I really can't tell you how much it meant to me. Not only did I get the lyrics, but was able to listen to her sing it. Trust me, this girl has a big career ahead of her. So much talent in a young woman! (I can't believe that she will be a high school freshman this coming school year.)
When I was Olivia's age, I wanted to be an author. I had all of the stories and ideas living in my head, but it just didn't seem to be a realistic life goal. I mean, we all know that most authors don't make it huge. And as I got older and learned just how little authors made for their work, I was disheartened. I put my dream aside and looked for jobs that would pay the bills. Life kind of does that to a person, you know? Here's the thing... I was paying my bills... but I was miserable. When I decided to publish my novel, Mortal Obligation, it was like someone turned on a light. I suddenly realized that I had been fighting what I was supposed to be doing, because no one thought it was an attainable goal. Me included! Well, I'm here to tell you that by reaching for my dreams, I found who I really am. I've never been so happy as I am being an author. And I hope that Liv, and everyone else, keeps reaching for their dreams.
Now it's time for me to surprise Olivia. See, she doesn't know this, but I've decided to name a character in Flukes after her. It's a character that I really like, and wanted the perfect name. And Olivia is perfect! I think Liv will like her new character, and I can't wait to share Flukes with her.
I also can't wait to share Flukes with everyone else. I'm hoping to do a cover reveal this month and to finally share a little about this story. I'm incredibly excited about this book, and hope that you all will enjoy it too. It's a bit different from the Dark Betrayal Trilogy, but I can tell you that it is a YA, paranormal novel. And it's got a lot romance. A LOT OF ROMANCE.
I know you guys are still waiting on Immortal Grave and I swear that I am working on it. I'm sorry it's taken so much longer than I originally planned. I hate causing you frustration. I know how long it can feel to wait for the next book in a series. (I am reader after all!) And I'm going to tell you all a secret... it still shocks the heck out of me that there are people eagerly waiting for the next book. I get emails, messages, and tweets daily asking me when the book will be ready. I want to respond to all of you, but it's becoming impossible. It also makes me sad to have to tell you it isn't ready yet. You guys, the guilt eats at me. It. Is. Coming. But that's all I can tell you. Your support and excitement for this series warms my heart. I'm not just saying that. It really does make me feel all fuzzy inside. I promise to deliver the very best conclusion that I can muster. And really guys, this book has so much happening... I think you're going to be happy. *fingers crossed*
I love the lyrics and the blog post. You are both extremely talented and inspiring. Keep going after your dreams, Olivia! You are talented just like your cousin Nichole.
ReplyDeleteThese lyrics are absolutely gorgeous!! Olivia NEEDS to get them recorded, because I so want to hear how them in her voice! (And wouldn't that make the most amazing background music for a book trailer?!) I can't wait for *Flukes*, and I have a feeling I'm going to LOVE Liv <3!! Well done, Olivia!!
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful and so very fitting. I love that you were an inspiration to her. That's how dreams get turned into realities. Never fear reaching for the stars, Olivia. You reach hard enough, I promise you get to grab the one with your name on it.
