Recklessly Royal Teaser

Sunday, December 29, 2013

Here's a little taste of what's to come in March! I can't wait for you guys to spend time with Cathy and David. They were so much fun to write.

He was sitting on a large stone with a fishing pole in his hands. I slowed to a jog and then a walk. I pulled my earbuds out and let them hang over my shoulder.

“Hey.” I walked over to where he was sitting and smiled down at him. We’d texted a few times since our date, but hadn’t been able to match up our schedules to see each other.

“I was hoping I might see you.” He held his hand out to me and pulled me to sit next to him.

“You were hoping I’d be fishing?”

“I was hoping I’d see you run past. Thankfully you stopped. I’m not much of a runner and you were moving pretty fast.” He set down his pole and turned to look at me.

“How’d you know I’d be running?”

“I was hoping.” His smile turned wicked and my heart rate had nothing to do with my exercise.

“Hoping what exactly?”

He reached out and twisted a strand of my hair around his finger. “I heard from a trustworthy source that no one ever comes to this part of the lake—except for a princess when she goes running. And I thought that you just might be hot enough to want to take a dip with me.”

“I didn’t bring my swimming suit.”

He patted along his chest and shorts. “Looks like I forgot mine too.”

“I guess we’re out of luck.” I lifted one eyebrow as he reached around me to undo the strap of the mp3 player on my arm.

“I can think of an alternative.” With a delicate finger he traced the strap of my tank top before sliding it down my shoulder.

“Are you suggesting that we go skinny dipping?” My stomach did a funny little flip. He was right, no one ever came to this side of the lake, but the thought of swimming naked with him was enough to get my juices flowing.

“Oh, I’m more than suggesting it. I’m asking really nicely.” Leaning forward, he pressed his lips to mine and I melted into his side. Carefully he laid me down on the rock and rolled over so that his body was partially covering mine. When he pulled back from my mouth, he pressed a kiss to the shoulder he had pushed the strap off of. “I missed you this week.”

My heart was beating a million times a minute, but when he said he missed me, it froze in shock. It didn’t take long before it started back again and I felt like I had melted into the rock. Touching his cheek, I made him look at me. “I missed you too.”

Hunger filled his gaze as he looked at my face. “Good.”

Just in case you are as excited about the release as I am, you can preorder your copy here:

Recklessly Royal Teaser

Friday, December 13, 2013

The time is getting near. Recklessly Royal is out in stores in just a few short months.

So, you know what that means? It means it's TEASER TIME. Are you ready?

I can't hear you! Are you ready?

(And stay tuned for some information on book three after the teaser!)

As they stepped down from the dais, Jess moved forward to straighten Sam’s train and to return the wedding bouquet. At the bottom of the stairs, Alex bowed and Sam curtsied to Mother before making the long walk back to the palace. I could see them laughing as they walked, waving to friends and familiar faces. As I stepped carefully down the stairs a pair of warm eyes caught my attention.

David watched me with a small smile, but there was something in his eyes I hadn’t noticed in another man’s gaze before. Hunger. Just good, old-fashioned lust, and it sent a shiver down my spine. His eyes traveled over the tight-fitting satin of my dress and back to the barely noticeable cleavage.

I might never have a relationship like Sam and Alex. Hell, I might never find that type of love. But I could find someone to make my blood run hot for one night.

The last boy I had dated had treated me like a trophy, showing me off at parties. Even his kissing had been more like battle than something passionate; as if he was trying to lay claim to me, instead of loving everything I am.

Most girls wanted a man who made them feel like a princess, but I wanted one who made me feel like a woman.

And I think I’d just figured out who that was going to be. I’d just have to convince him as well.

What do you think? Sound like fun? That Cathy has a plan and I can't wait for you to see how it turns out.

About Book THREE....

That's right. Book three!

I can't share the cover yet, but I can say, that it is drool worthy! I think you're all going to be very pleased with this book. We have one last royal sibling to discuss--Max! You'll get to see more of him in Recklessly Royal and even catch a glimpse of his love interest.

That's it for now! What do you think?

An Update

Friday, September 27, 2013

An update on The Accidental Assassin

As many of you know this summer has been incredibly busy for me. I had hoped to be able to catch up once my daughter started school, but I wasn’t prepared for how sick she would get. She’s been at home with me the last few years and while that is something I’m grateful for, it means her immune system wasn’t up to snuff. So, for the last month and half, she has been continuously sick. Horrible fevers, stomach bugs, you name it, and she’s had it in the last few weeks. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. The poor thing has been miserable. So, not only was I not able to catch up on work, I fell even farther behind. And the truth is that my daughter will always come first. And since I have a contract with Avon to complete, my indie projects took a hit.

What does this mean for The Accidental Assassin? It means I’m not going to publish it on October 8th. I know that this will upset people, but I had decisions to make—and one of those was whether or not I should rush the book out the door, or take my time and make sure it went out smoothly. I’m still aiming for a release this year but am not going to say when as of yet. I also hope that the bloggers that made time on their schedules for the release will forgive me. I know how valuable your time is and I truly thought I would have it all done and wrapped up in a bow for you. Please accept my apologies.

Thank you to everyone that reads my books. I truly love Ava and Owen’s story, so I hope you won’t mind waiting a little bit longer.

All the best,

Nichole Chase

Recklessly Royal Cover Reveal!

Monday, September 16, 2013

I'm *VERY* excited to share with all of you the cover for Recklessly Royal, book 2 in the Royal Series! I think Avon did a spectacular job of catching 'Cathy' in this cover! She might be a princess, but she's a sassy one!

On Sale from Avon Books March 25, 2014
Catherine has spent her life being the perfect princess. She’s kept her hands clean, her head down, and most importantly-men at arm’s length. After all, most men are after only one thing, and for Cathy there’s a lot more at stake than her bed; she has to worry about the fate of an entire nation. But at the rate she’s going, Cathy is afraid she’ll give the Virgin Queen a run for her money. She is tired of waiting for someone good enough to come along. She has a plan, and it all hinges on seducing the one man who seems utterly unimpressed by all things royal. The one man she is tempted by more than any other . . .

When David arrives at the royal wedding of his friend, the newly ordained Duchess Samantha Rousseau, he expected to feel uncomfortable and out of his element, but he wasn’t prepared to be targeted by Prince Alex’s gorgeous younger sister. With Cathy’s giant blue eyes, killer figure, and sense of humor, it won’t take long before he gives in. But when he finds out just how innocent the crown princess really is, will he play the part of knight in shining armor or the dashing rogue?
(These are the US links only. I will be providing the links for the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, etc, at a later date.)
Don't forget that you'll be able to read the first two chapters in the new Suddenly Royal paperback, available in stores on November 26th! (Also, three new bonus scenes with Sam and Alex!)
I can't wait for you guys to spend some time in Cathy's head and to swoon with me over David! These two are mischief wrapped in a bow!

Ava McKenzie is a creature of habit. Life is passing her by and she has nothing to show for it. She’s had the same job since she started college, she orders the same dish every time she goes to her favorite restaurant, and only reads books from authors she knows. There is nothing new or surprising in her life… until her best friend marries a man from London. When her newlywed friend asks her to house-sit while she honeymoons, Ava jumps at the chance. She thinks this could be the very thing she needs to shake up her life. Ava throws herself head first into her new lifestyle; she wants to try everything, go everywhere, and never get stuck in a rut again. Of course, offing a man in a car garage hadn’t been one of the things on her list to try.

Owen Walker spends every day in a new place with a new case. As one of the most renowned assassins in the world, he has his choice of marks—and he’s never failed in a mission. When a new hit takes him back to his hometown, he looks forward to spending time somewhere familiar. What he isn’t expecting is to help an attractive, confused American woman find out how she’s ended up on a hit man’s list.

As Ava and Owen dodge bullets, will they be able to escape their undeniable attraction to each other? Or will all of that chemistry blow up in a shower of hot and dangerous sparks?

The Accidental Assassin Teaser!

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a great Labor day!

So here it is! A little Ava and Owen. ;)

“Ava, you have to stop looking at me like that.” He pressed closer to me, his eyes dipping down to my mouth. The heat of his body washed over my back and I leaned into it, drawn like a moth to flame.

“Like what?” I licked my lips and my breathing hitched.

“Like you want me to kiss you, love.” One of his hands left my waist and drifted up to cup my chin, tilting my head a little more in his direction. Dipping his head down, his lips barely brushed against mine as he looked into my eyes. “I’m not the type of man you should want to kiss.”

The Romance Academy

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

You know how I mentioned that I've been pretty busy lately? Well, I'm about to get even busier.

And I'm excited about it!!!

I'm incredibly flattered to announce that I've been asked to work with The Romance Academy on a class about crafting dialogue. From September 30th to October 25th I will be hosting a four week class on dialogue.

Here is a little more about the class:
Week 1 - Listen up!
We’ll get started by identifying what makes great dialogue: the pace? Honesty? Snappy banter? All of the above? Learn how to break down speech, write realistic conversations, and avoid the dreaded info-dump so you show—not tell—your readers what’s going on.
Week 2 - Dialect, slang, and nick-names
Half the fun of language is when we mix it up a little. Learn how playing with the rules can craft distinct character voices, and what people’s choice of words says about them. Identify your character’s dialog tics, how they can add authenticity to your work.
Week 3 - In one ear...
Communication is the foundation of all good relationships… and that’s why things get so messy when it fails! You’ll learn about different communication styles, and how you can craft dramatic, compelling conversations for your characters.
Week 4 - Now shh!
Great dialogue is as much about what isn’t said, so you’ll finish up by learning about non-verbal communication, and how your characters can reveal themselves through silence, body language—and lies!

There are several great classes full of information taught by bestselling authors! Emily Snow, Melody Grace, Monica Murphy, and Cheryl McIntyre are all teaching classes. Classes on crafting characters, spicing up your sex scenes, exploring New Adult, and a Bestseller Bootcamp! There will also be marketing classes taught by the amazing KP Simmon of InkslingerPR that will offer invaluable information for authors and aspiring authors.

If you're interested in the classes, you can get an early sign up discount! So, check it out! I'm really looking forward to working with everyone and spending time with writers. This will be a great opportunity to meet others in the field that are on the same path.

Busy, busy, writer bee. An annoucement and a teaser!

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

It's, um, been a while since I posted. Mainly because I've been super busy. With some cool things. Some are author-ly and some are more basic life things.

My munchkin started Preschool which is scary and awesome all at the same time. So I'm now learning to write during the day instead of keeping vampire hours. It's been a change! As a mother it's been an exciting but sad time. To see her grow into an independent child from the baby she was is both rewarding and difficult. I have to fight the part of me that wants to wrap her up and keep her safe. I'm slowly learning to hang back and let her do her own thing but I think it would be easier to fight a Dark One or a Siren.

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may have noticed I have new author photos. The other day I had headshots taken by the lovely Krisha Craven of Krisha Craven Photography. (If you're local, you should definitely check her out. I plan on taking my munchkin soon.) She did a fabulous job. I was incredibly nervous about being the object of a 'photo shoot' but she made me feel very comfortable and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out.

I look all professional! Which is just weird.

The re-release date for Avon HarperCollins Suddenly Royal is November 26th. I'm counting down the days. We will be releasing the cover and synopsis for the second Royal book in a couple of weeks. I'm incredibly excited about this book. And if you want a sneak peek of the first couple of chapters, you'll find them in the back of the new Suddenly Royal paperback!

To tide over the Sam and Alex lovers: There is a fun interview on Sarah M. Ross's blog with Sam and Alex. So, if you're missing those two or want a little inside info about their upcoming nuptials, check it out!

**Now for some information concerning the second book, I have a small announcement. Some of you deserve private investigator licenses and have already figured this out, but The Royal Agenda has had a title change. After talking with my editor and agent, we've decided the second book will be titled,
Recklessly Royal. I'm actually VERY excited about this, because it fits Princess Catherine to a 'T'.**

I'm currently working on The Accidental Assassin to get it ready for it's October 1st release date. I'm so excited about this book and the characters. I can't wait to share them with all of you! And since I just can't wait... here's another teaser!

I jerked back around and dove for the chair where my gun was still lying. I threw the beef stew on the couch and wrapped my fingers around the pistols grip. My body was moving without thought, some kind of survival instinct kicking in. I practically floated to the bathroom door. It didn’t feel like my feet ever touched the ground. One minute I was scrabbling for my gun and the next I was pressed against the wooden door. Not sure if anyone was listening to what was going on in the house I rapped with knuckles gently.

“Owen! There’s someone here!” I hissed the words and increased my rapping when he didn’t answer right away. “Owen! Damn it! Answer the door!”

The bathroom door opened and I practically fell into his wet arms. My body slid against his in a delicious tangle of damp skin that I shouldn’t have even noticed. The shower was still running, but he’d taken the time to wrap a towel around his waist. I looked up at him, water dripping from his hair onto my face.

“There’s someone here!” I whispered as I stood up and pointed to the front door. “And in the back!” I swung my arm behind me.

Without a word he turned around and dropped the towel. My mouth fell open at the view and I felt my head tilt to the side as he bent over to grab his underwear. The man had a lot to work with. He pulled the tight shorts up and I wondered why all men didn’t wear those.

Probably because they wouldn’t all look like Owen in them.

The Accidental Assassin Teaser

Thursday, July 18, 2013

So, I'm still alive after my last bad news post. (YAY!) And you guys either have really bad aim or love me enough to only pick smooth rocks, because I don't have any broken bones, either. Thank you for that. ;) And thank you guys for being so understanding.

Since there seems to be a huge thing on Facebook going on right now where authors share 7 lines from their current WIP, I figured I'd just share a teaser there and on my blog. (BTW, if you don't follow my Facebook page, you should. I like to do random giveaways, post tiny teasers, and news there. Okay, I'm just a Facebook addict. I'm not ashamed, but if you want to keep up with more tidbits about Sam and Alex, Ava and Owen, or any of my other characters, you should definitely check it out.)

From The Accidental Assassin:

“So is this how you stand when you shoot?” I tried to not focus on the way his body wrapped around mine.

“Of course not.” He stepped back and I turned to look at him. “I can’t look stupid while I’m out killing people.”

“Gee, thanks.” I reached behind me and tried to put the pistol into the holster. The sweater caught on the gun and I fumbled for a minute before getting it safely put away. Well, safe was a matter of opinion. The gun was loaded, with one in the chamber, and currently pointed down my ass crack.

“You don’t want to be comfortable with them.” Owen was watching me with guarded eyes. “If you’re too comfortable you’ll take them for granted and that’s when you hurt yourself.”

“Or someone else.”

“That too.” Turning away from me he loaded another gun before placing it a shoulder holster for himself. He also attached a knife to his ankle, and stuck a smaller pistol in the small of his back. He pulled a large gun out from the bag and checked the chamber and I felt my eyes widen.

“I can’t wait to see where you put that thing.”

“I bet you would.” He looked around the room for a minute before walking over to the bed. Flipping the mattress over he used a smaller pocket knife to cut a large gash in the fabric.

“There goes our deposit.”

Please don't stone me...

Monday, July 15, 2013

So, you know how I've had some amazing life changing curveballs thrown my way recently? Well, everything has been so downright amazing, I knew, just knew, that there had to be a down side eventually. Thankfully, it's really not that bad.

It's not that bad...

Just a little... delay.

*edges toward safety*

Due to circumstances out of my control, I've had to push the release for The Accidental Assassin back a little bit.

*ducks flying rocks*

I'm sorry!

*peeks out*

I swear I tried everything to get it out in August, it just can't happen.

*ducks again and waves white flag*

It's not long. Really.

*peeks out again*

Okay? October 1st. That's not too long, right?

Just don't hit me with any pointy rocks. I need to be able to see the keyboard. And the computer screen. And the stove, because a girl has to eat.

In all seriousness, I'm really sorry guys. There's just no way around it, and as it is, I may not sleep for a few months. I want you guys to have the books as quickly--but is as perfect shape--as possible.

In the GOOD NEWS department, I will be announcing the release date and blurb for the next Royal book very soon. (Maybe I should have lead with the good news?)

Also, the new paperback of Suddenly Royal with bonus scenes will be in stores November 26th! EEK! I honestly have a hard time imagining it. So, if you see my unconscious form on the floor of a bookstore, please find smelling salts. I will have likely passed out from pure excitement.

Vacation SALE!

Saturday, July 6, 2013

To celebrate a much needed vacation, I've put the ebook version of Flukes on SALE! If you haven't read this one yet, this is a great time to grab it. Flukes is a New Adult Paranormal Romance set in the Bahamas--a fun beach/pool read! *This book contains strong language and mature situations. Not recommended for young audiences.*

Meena has a secret guarded closely by her family—a secret as dangerous as the sea and buried just as deep. When court-appointed community-service workers are assigned to Flukes, the family-owned animal sanctuary, everyone is on high alert. It doesn’t help that Meena finds herself attracted to sexy-as-sin Blake Weathering, one of the new workers. If he wasn’t so distracting, she might be able to land Flukes a much-needed cruise-line contract.

Blake Weathering, the first in his family to attend public school, has developed a tough image. Unfortunately, it lands him in trouble. Now banned from his high school graduation ceremony, getting his diploma is dependent upon a community-service gig cleaning up fish crap. No diploma, no trust fund fortune—and no way to escape his overbearing father. The last thing he needs is the distraction of a mysterious girl with teal eyes who pulls at his heartstrings.

When Blake discovers Meena’s secret, they are both thrown into a desperate search for information about her past. Two worlds pull them in opposite directions, and they will have to fight to hold on to all that really matters.

Have a great week guys! If you try to contact me, I'll get back with you after the 15th.

Here you go!

“It’s been a long time since I woke up next to someone.” His voice sent goosebumps over my skin and I froze. One of his legs rested between mine and every movement made it deliciously clear how much he enjoyed having a bedmate. “I’m not used to it.”

“Wh-why is that?” His lips were so close to mine I couldn’t focus on anything else. Flashes of our kiss from the night before ran through my mind.

“Trust.” He leaned a little closer, his lips almost touching mine. “Can’t sleep next to someone who might kill you.”

“That would be difficult.” I licked my lips and tried to calm my racing heart.

“But not with you, love.” He let go of one of my wrists to run a finger along my jaw. “You’re not going to kill me in my sleep.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“It’s in your eyes.” His gaze dipped down to my lips. “The eyes never lie.”

Are you guys ready for Owen?
On another note, this weekend I will be in Orlando for BookBash! I can't wait to see everyone there! It's going to be so much fun. I'll have copies of Suddenly Royal, Flukes, and a few of my other books. I'll also have some fun swag to giveaway, like bookmarks and Flukes bracelets.
If you're flying or driving into Orlando, safe travels!

Are you a book blogger? Then you need to read this post!

Without book bloggers I wouldn't be where I am today. In fact, I might not be anywhere. Bloggers that love books gave my work a chance. Do you know how amazing that is? Really? Millions of books out there and someone decided to give mine a shot. (You guys know who you are and I'll forever be grateful.) Those bloggers took time out of their lives to write thoughtful reviews and point readers in my books directions. They boosted me up, supported my efforts. And now, it's time to give them a little something back.

Well, maybe not so little...

My friend, Colleen Hoover, suggested banning together and doing something crazy, something amazing for the bloggers and I jumped at the chance. In fact, a lot of us did.
